We asked her to write to us and tell us a bit about her business and here is what she had to say…

I’ve been designing with ribbon for about 3yrs. My business Chapeau de Gateau evolved from working at Mokuba here in Toronto. As a part time employee I’ve been very fortunate to have this resource for inspiration. I’m a pretty devoted fan!

When I work with clients they’d either choose a design that I’ve already created, and perhaps change to their colours, or they request a new look. The goal is to compliment the look of the cake by which I have worked closely with cake designers to achieve the best look. It really depends on the bride how much they’d like to be involved. Each cake topper has the names of the bride and groom and wedding date on the bottom as a keepsake of their day. I’ve also recreated celebration cake toppers for anniversaries, birthdays and graduations.

Along with cake toppers I design other table top accessories, bouquets and a jewellery line called C’est Joli.  The wedding theme colours can be extended to other items such as ribbon centerpieces and place card holders. The accessory line features ribbon boutonnieres, corsages, bracelets and necklaces.

At Mokuba we are often asked ‘what do you do with this?’

Luckily I’ve still happily coming up with lots of applications!
