| Couple: Steph + Jay | July 2012 |

Tell us how you two started dating?

We met at a hockey game, one of those encounters that piques your interest and doesn’t let go. I turned him down at first, but he kept talking, telling me about himself and asking me questions. Before he left, he insisted he have a way to get in touch with me. I thought I was crazy to go along with it, but he was so sure, and so good-looking! Then the e-mails started, and we had so much in common, got along so well. The first phone call, my stomach hurt from laughing and my face hurt from smiling. I mailed him cookies, and he sent me a thank you card with a coupon for a home-made meal. We agreed later on that by our first date we were already hooked.

Tell us how you got engaged?

We went on a huge road trip this past summer; 49 days of driving, camping, and visiting friends and family. Two days before we left, Jay still didn’t have a sleeping bag, and we had planned to go shopping for one. We got up early (Jay was very eager and at the time I didn’t understand why, of course), and drove down to the store. As we parked and walked across the street, I told Jay that we were on the spot where we’d first kissed. He said that he thought it was about 20 feet away from where we were standing, and pulled me along the sidewalk. He then told me to look up, and I saw red tape attached to the scaffolding, with little wooden letters that said “Steph   Marry Me   Jay”.  We stood there on the street, smiling and crying, while he told me the story of how he got the sign up there the night before, and even got a parking ticket while he set it up. He then handed me the most beautiful ring I had ever seen, and we cut down the sign so we could have it framed. This was in June, but the scaffolding and the red pieces of tape are still there. If you’re ever on King Street, south side, just east of Spadina, look up.

Tell us a little on how you would like to have your wedding and your vision of it?

Jay and I love the outdoors. As kids, each of us has our own wonderful memories of being by a lake with our families, laughing and playing in the water. A great day for us has good food, good music, good weather and good people. Our ideal wedding day would be spent much like our childhoods, wonderful memories by the lake with loved ones.

Regards,

Sarah Wright
