| Couple: Nataly + Greg  |

Tell us how you two started dating?

At the beginning of 2008, Nataly moved to Sydney, Australia for a year on a working holiday visa. She was on a soul searching mission to discover her purpose. Prior to her being here I, Greg, had been on a 3 year journey looking for the woman who I wanted to fulfill me and who I could potentially spend the rest of my life with.

Interestingly enough we were both invited to a mutual friends’ birthday party on the 21st of  June 2008 at the Paddington Inn in Sydney. I had been ill for a week before and wasn’t actually going to go but decided to bite the bullet.

I arrived at this somewhat classy bar ready to have a good time and after about 10 minutes of being there, saying hello to people and greeting the birthday girl, I was introduced to Nataly. I was transfixed. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. The birthday girl then informed me that she lived in Canada but was in Australia for a year and I should do my best to keep her in the country. Almost instantly, my interest faded due to the fact that we lived in different countries and I decided not to pursue her further.

We both went our separate ways and socialized with various other people but I couldn’t get her off my mind. Every time I looked around to see where she was, she happened to be standing a few feet away from me. I considered that maybe it was a sign so I decided to put my concerns aside and explore deeper.

After a few failed attempts, I managed to get her attention and we landed up talking the whole night. We spoke about life, Canada, Australia, olives, wine and all sorts of other weird and interesting topics. I was mesmerized. We both were. We both felt an immediate connection with each other. It was as if we’d known each other all our lives but that was the first moment we were able to speak to each other. We stayed close together the whole night and I offered to drop her home. Our night was sealed with a kiss and we both struggled to go our separate ways.

In one night we had developed the most amazing connection and it was the most euphoric feeling we had ever experienced.
3 weeks into our relationship we knew that we were in love. We both never felt that way about any of our previous partners and we just knew that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together.

Tell us how you got engaged?

Nat had moved back to Toronto in February 2009 due to visa issues. Throughout the time she was away, I knew I wanted to marry her. I had planned to go to Canada for a visit later that year and propose to her.

I arrived in Toronto on April 26th 2009. Our meeting at the airport felt exactly the same as it did the first night we met. We were both nervous and excited all at the same time. It was such an amazing moment that I don’t think we’ll ever forget.

We planned 3 nights away in Montreal mid way through my trip. I knew that Montreal was the place where the next stage of our lives would begin. What I didn’t take into account was my lack of knowledge of Montreal.

Our night began at a wonderful restaurant in Old Montreal with its cobble stone streets and beautiful charm. So far so good. My plan was to go for dinner, then walk down to the waters edge and propose in this incredible city – a moment we’d always remember.
Once dinner finished, we walked towards what I thought was the waters edge only to discover a railway line. The night started to take a turn for the worst. From that point onward, panic set in and I had to try and recover from this disaster. Much to my dismay, my recovery was marred by a comedy of errors. We eventually landed up back at our hotel and while Nat was busy getting ready for bed, I waited patiently for her with the ring box open.
She eventually opened the door to the bathroom and found me waiting there. I then proceeded to ask her if she would marry me, make me the luckiest man and spend the rest of her life with me. She said yes and the rest, as they say, is history.

As a result of this devastating failure, I decided to propose to her again in the city where we first met. It was simple, romantic and US.

Tell us a little on how you would like to have your wedding and your vision of it?

Nataly and I envision having an Orthodox Jewish wedding that encompasses everything that we love about Judaism. We’ve been studying and deepening our knowledge about Judaism and are very much connected to its spiritual side and would love for that to be reflected on our wedding day.

We want a different kind of wedding that shows who we are as a couple. The venue we’ve chosen is different and in many ways displays our passion for the arts. An old theatre that has been refurbished in this way has a beauty and expression that is difficult to miss. As we have joined our lives from two separate backgrounds and cultures, it is so important to include that within the dancing, the energy and the feel of our special day. The merging of the two very unique and distinctive aspects of who we are, mixed in with the old and new of this venue is something we really want to allow every guest to experience.

Part of our vision includes numerous candles, vibrant colours with an element of distinction, lots of dancing, great food and most importantly 150 of our closest family and friends from all over the world.

Sarah Wright
