Editor’s Notes: Toronto Wedding Professionals along with some great Toronto Wedding Vendors are getting together to offer a cool contest to couples across Southern Ontario where they have a chance to win some awesome prizes.

We met through friends and started talking during our first year at Queen’s University. Before we had even met, Elamin sent me a message on Facebook, and my friend assured me that he was just a really friendly person, so I replied. We chatted casually for a few months before we even met, and finally sat with one another during our last day of psychology class in April. We were really comfortable with one another right off the bat. I gave him my number that day and we talked all throughout the summer – with him using long distance phone cards, because he was in Kingston and I was in Hamilton – and finally in August he asked, at the end of a great conversation, if he could bring me out on a date when I got back to Kingston for my second year. We were both so nervous that the date didn’t even happen until the end of September, but it kind of just went from there!

Tell us how you got engaged?

We had just started living together in September 2010, after nearly four years of dating. We had spent the evening with friends, and when we got home he asked if I wanted to watch a movie, so we got into our Pj’s and settled in to watch it. I fell asleep halfway through one of my favourites, which he hadn’t seen – In Her Shoes. At the end, he gently woke me, we went to bed, and he asked if I would like a glass of water. I had a cough, so I said yes, and he leaped off the bed, knocking his pants off of the hanger near the bed, hung them back up, and went to fetch me the water. When he came back, he laid down beside me and handed me the glass. I drank the whole thing in one go, and when I put it down, he took a box from beneath the pillow and said, “I will never have the words to do this properly… so, Emily, would you mind spending the rest of your life with me?” It turned out that the box had been in his pants pocket, and so he had knocked them to the floor on purpose so he would not look too suspicious getting the box out! It was a beautiful, sweet moment that could not have been more perfect.

Tell us a little on how you would like to have your wedding and your vision of it?

We would like to have a wedding that truly represents who we are – something that is intimate, yet can include all of the wonderful people in our lives who have inspired us. We are an intercultural couple, so we will be fusing our cultural traditions in the ceremony – for instance, we will both be wearing henna on our hands. We love September weather, so we will hold at least a part of our wedding outdoors in September 2012. We have many family members and friends who mean a lot to us both as a couple and individually, so we want to hold the ceremony in the early evening in candlelight and share a beautiful and yummy dessert reception with these most important people in our lives.
